Tallapoosa Needs You!

Thank You Tallapoosa!

Tallapoosa Needs You

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out during the Fourth of July weekend festivities and the parade on the 4th. It was wonderful to see such a tremendous turnout and incredible display of community spirit. Meeting and speaking with so many of you truly reinforced why Heather and I chose to make Tallapoosa our home.

As we look ahead to the coming weeks, registration for several important seats in our city government will soon begin. Current Mayor Brett Jones, along with City Councilman Dan Pope (serving since 2010) and City Councilwoman Jackie Roberts (serving for over 27 years in total), will be up for reelection. Notably, neither Mayor Jones nor Councilman Pope has experience running or operating a small business. Councilwoman Roberts has some small business experience, having owned a small accounting business while maintaining another job. The rest of our current city council members—Mark Smith, Jonathan James, and Bobby Parker—similarly lack significant small business experience.

While surrounding cities and towns continue to thrive, growing their local economies and attracting new residents, Tallapoosa has struggled, losing businesses and population. This economic stagnation affects all of us directly through higher taxes, fewer employment opportunities, and declining property values. Many of you have expressed your concerns about the direction our city is headed, and I wholeheartedly share your concerns. The upcoming election will be one of the most crucial in our city's history, as it will determine whether Tallapoosa charts a course toward prosperity or continues on its current path of decline.

This urgent need for change inspired me to announce my candidacy for Mayor on February 22, and it motivates me to encourage others to step forward and get involved. We need fresh ideas, innovative perspectives, and most importantly, individuals with strong, business-minded experience on the Tallapoosa City Council. Our council should be comprised of individuals capable of making knowledgeable and practical decisions to guide our city toward sustainable growth and economic revitalization.

Our community is filled with passionate, skilled individuals who deeply care about our city's future. If you are one of these individuals, I strongly encourage you to consider running for one of the two available city council seats. Public service is both an honor and a responsibility, and your involvement could make all the difference in steering Tallapoosa towards a prosperous future.

In the words of President John F. Kennedy, who famously said, "Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country," I am asking you today to join me in our efforts to make Tallapoosa the wonderful city we all know it can be.

Together, let’s build a future filled with opportunity, growth, and community pride. Let's make the City of Tallapoosa great again!

Warm regards,

Joe Glass
