Tallapoosa’s Future: Why Staying Informed Matters, Maintenance vs. Growth

Life is busy. Between working long hours, raising a family, and managing daily responsibilities, it’s easy to lose track of what’s happening at City Hall. Most residents don’t have time to sit in on City Council meetings or follow every agenda item, and that’s completely understandable.

But the truth is, the decisions made in those meetings directly affect us all, from how much we pay in property taxes, to whether our parks are safe for our kids, to whether downtown businesses are thriving or sitting empty. These choices shape Tallapoosa’s future.

The Challenges We Face

Tallapoosa stands at a crossroads. In the coming years, our city will face serious challenges that require more than maintenance, they demand vision and leadership:

  • Economic Stagnation, Without attracting new businesses and supporting local entrepreneurs, the cost of running our city continues to fall more heavily on homeowners.

  • Aging Infrastructure, Roads, public buildings, and utilities need meaningful investment to keep pace with growth and ensure safety.

  • Lack of Strategic Planning, Too often, city decisions are short-term “patches” instead of long-term solutions. That makes it harder for families and businesses to build a future here.

  • Missed Opportunities, Neighboring towns are hosting events, attracting tourism, and growing their economies. Tallapoosa has the same potential — but without clear vision and proactive leadership, we risk being left behind.

Mayor Brett Jones Maintains, He Doesn’t Grow

Mayor Brett Jones has decades of experience maintaining government buildings. He knows how to keep the lights on. But Tallapoosa needs more than a caretaker, it needs a builder.

Transparency Promised, but Not DeliveredDespite campaigning on openness, Mayor Jones still refuses to live-stream or archive City Council meetings, even though the city already has the capability. Residents deserve transparency, not after-the-fact updates.

“Brett’s Code” and the Cost of Misguided Leadership. When Mayor Jones applied state-level building codes to our small town, construction and remodeling ground to a halt. Homeowners found improvements too expensive. Investors walked away. Tallapoosa earned a reputation as “too hard to deal with.”

While the City Council ultimately repealed “Brett’s Code” after strong public pushback, the damage to our reputation and growth can’t be ignored. When people ask why we don’t see more restaurants or shops downtown, that’s a big part of the answer.

Campaigning Too LateMayor Jones didn’t launch his official campaign page until September 20 — barely a month before early voting began. Leadership isn’t about showing up when it’s time to ask for votes; it’s about showing up when the community needs you.

Joe Glass Can Maintain and Grow

I bring over 26 years of property management and operational leadership experience, not just maintaining multimillion-dollar communities, but transforming them. I’ve turned underperforming properties into thriving, self-sustaining operations. That’s the kind of growth mindset I want to bring to City Hall.

Since announcing my campaign on February 22, 2025, I’ve spent months walking neighborhoods, attending local events, and listening directly to residents. Leadership doesn’t happen once every four years, it happens every day.

Where Brett Jones maintains, I will maintain and grow:

  • Transparency: Every City Council meeting will be live-streamed, archived, and easily accessible to all residents.

  • Economic Development: Fill empty storefronts, attract new businesses, and create new revenue streams to reduce the property-tax burden on families.

  • Community Investment: Support our parks, events, and local entrepreneurs — the heart of what makes Tallapoosa unique.

  • Strategic Planning: Shift from short-term fixes to long-term, balanced growth that preserves our small-town values while preparing for the future.
